NewDay card fraudently used - how long to resolve?

Have to disagree with a few of the previous comments. Paying a bill of any sort is not an unusual type of fraud imo.
Also you should be refunded up front pending an investigation (if one is even needed, sounds like they have already worked it out from what you said).0 -

Will have to bow to your more current knowledge in this area but it certainly wasn't a popular fraud area when I was in cards - and it is true that, without a PIN, the fraudster will be limited to things that can only be paid in the card-not-present environment and where the retailer doesn't require the registered address to be the same as the delivery address.
I guess it may make sense to a fraudster to do this if they intend to do a runner because it buys them a bit of time to 'get away' before the payment gets rejected - although they might as well just run off without paying at all.
If they plan on staying in the property, it makes very little sense - unless their plan is to say, 'A friend agreed to pay my bill - I had no idea they were using a stolen card'.
It is also a reasonable strategy for those intent on committing first-party fraud (not that I'm suggesting that has happened here).0
