Being chased for 19 year old debt

Options
Just received a letter from a solicitor saying that they have been instructed by arrow global to collect a debt that was originally due to capital one.
The original debt is from 2000 and then it was assigned to global arrow in 2011.

Do I pay it? This is the first letter and is threatening me with a county court judgement.
The debt is for £1000.22 and I don’t have the money to pay this so really don’t know what to do.

Two questions you need to find the answers to.

    Is it your debt?

    Is it enforceable?

When was it last acknowledged, or any payment made to it?

If more than 6 years ago, then it will be unenforceable.

Have you been paying anything at all to this? Sometimes debts are kept open by companies allowing token payments to be made.

It's unusual for them to chase debts so old let alone take you to court for them. So if anything has been paid in the last 6 years they have a case.

If you have been making payments over the years, then you could still check for enforceability by submitting a CCA request to check whether Arrow Global have compliant paperwork. With the debt being so old, there is a chance that they wont have the correct paperwork... :)

I haven’t acknowledged the debt or made a payment in years but not sure how long.
There’s one payment of £15 showing on the paperwork but doesn’t have a date with it and I don’t ever remember paying that

Probably a scam, hoping you settle (probably goes to a call centre where they will negotiate down the debt to make worried people pay up).

Even if you had such a card once, it is very possible that due to data breach, they are now just spray and pray targeting old customers.

You have not said when the last time you recollect paying the debt. Assuming you agree that the debt is yours, and that you do not recall making any payments toward the debt in six years, then if it were me, I would tempted to send a 'Statute Barred' letter to the Global Arrow solicitor.

    Scroll down to this -
Do bailiffs have the right for power of entry? -
Read and understand that they do not have the right to enter unless you allow it, or have an open entry. Do not let them in.
I think this job really needs
    a much bigger hammer.
