Not really a very helpful answer to someone who has been newly bereaved.
Googling on your question might have been both quicker and easier, if you're only after simple facts rather than opinions!

I didn't know they were bereaved (i didnt read the earlier posts again). I answered the question as asked in that post and with that expected follow up questions to appear.

  • Thank you, if anyone does have experience of Legal and General I would appreciate it. I just would like to know what to expect. I have sent all the documents they have requested and believe the letter said to include any information that could help the Trustee's which is what I have done . I wondered if it would 6 months or something, as you can imagine, there is a lot to sort out.

Just think, if you had asnwered Dunston, you might have a better idea by now- he deals with them all the time.

PM him if he doesnt have the time (or interest given the flack) to come back.

Dunston, sorry my head is all over the place. Specifically would you mind confirming -
What sort of timeframe is it for Legal and General to sort /settle this type of pension after someone passing after they have the relevant information?
After submitting all certificates to which they have the originals including the death certificate, what is their next step and do we need to provide anything further?
How often do Trustee boards meet to finalise things?

    Thank you again

Sorry to hear of your loss. L&G may also want to see a copy of the will (if there is one).

My wife lost her father last year and although he had already retired and his pension was being paid, her mother had to jump through a lot of hoops before they started paying the spouse pension she was entitled to. Death certificate, marriage certificate, will and other documents had to be sent, even then it still took several months before they started payments (having suspended them when he died).

I don't recall who the pension provider was, but it wasn't L&G so hopefully they will be more proactive.

Sorry to hear of your loss Clive.

I don’t think providing ID is jumping through hoops.
They may be obliged by insurance, legislation etc.
But you wouldn’t want them paying out to someone else would you? (Someone perhaps who’d picked up the details on social media/forums).
They need to make sure that they are following any wishes and also that the people claiming are the corrrect individuals.

    Absolutely not!

But I am somewhat surprised that since the pension was already in payment and that the deceased left a widow who may have been wholly dependent on her husband's income,
it took several months before they started payments (having suspended them when he died).
  • Does anyone have any experience dealing with L & G for this sort of thing please?
