Amex Platinum £2k spend question

Hi,

So I have ordered a Amex Platinum card in expectation to spend £2k easily on furniture for my new place. However the card, I thought, failed to arrive so they cancelled it and are sending a new one. Unfortunately, i found out the original one was sent to the post office and it's too late to "uncancel" it. By the time the new card comes, it's hard to use for the furniture due to the delivery times etc.

So my question is, what are the limits in the £2k spend? Am I able to just send £2k from the AMEX card to my saving account or use it to pay off a card I'd use for the furniture instead etc.?

Or does it have to be spent in shops/pine stores and transfer of money gives me no bonus?

Thanks

I'm not sure how you would propose to do either of those things, short of withdrawing cash on the card, which won't attract cashback, but would attract fees and interest.

You'll need to use it to make purchases.

So you cannot transfer online or go to the bank itself and pay off a different card there using this AMEX card?

I know these are stupid questions, but just wanted to double check, sorry

No. Only if it's offering money transfers, where you can put money into a current account for a fee.
  • You need to make purchases - either contactless or chip and pin etc.

You have 3 months to spend the £2K.
Surely you didn't wait almost 3 months before calling Amex to tell them that you had not received the card?
What do you mean when you say the original card was 'sent to the post office'? Do you mean that the postman was unable to deliver the card and it was returned to the sorting office for collection by you? Amex don't send cards by registered post so difficult to understand this. Or are you trying to say that Amex wrote the address of the local post office on the envelope and sent the card there? Very odd indeed unless you use a PO Box number as your address.
Amex normally send out replacement cards very quickly. When is the furniture due to be paid for?

Surely this is not your first ever credit card. Can you do this with any other cards that you hold?
