Hi all,
I require some advice.
My girlfriend was recently a victim of change of address fraud. Someone was able to get past the security on her Sainsbury’s bank credit card over the phone and change my address to a bogus address successfully. We do not know what personal information they have about her or how they got it.
They later called the credit card provider to request a new credit card was sent out to them, they failed the bank’s security questions on this occasion, and this was when the bank suspected fraudulent activity and froze the account before they could carry out any fraudulent transactions.
Upon all the advice we placed a protective registration marker on my file through CIFAS. The bank have since informed us that they themselves will place the following markers with CIFAS:
Category 2: ‘Victim of impersonation’ marker lasting 13 months
Category 1: ‘False identity fraud’ marker lasting six years (against the bogus address)
Upon losing all confidence in Sainsbury’s bank due to this whole situation and how they have dealt with it we called CIFAS and informed them that Sainsbury’s had informed them to add the above markers. CIFAS said that 'category 1' indicates a fraud and should not be registered in this instance, does it change anything that it is registered against the bogus address in my girlfriends name or will this still impact on her although we obviously wont be applying for any credit at the bogus address?
I have done lots of research but am still unsure if they have added this 'Category 1 marker' incorrectly. I know what the definition of this marker is but cannot seem to find out if it should have been added in this situation and if it will harm my girlfriends ability to get credit, it has happened at the worst possible time as about to apply for a mortgage and she is a victim in all this.
Any advice on what this CAT 1 marker means and how we overturn it if it is incorrect would be greatly appreciated.

Hi,
Probably best to stick to the thread you have already started which has had replies offering you guidance and help.
Having multiple threads on the same problem makes things harder to get the help you are asking for.
Here is your other thread have a look at the replies here https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/5975915/sainsburys-credit-card-account-under-review-please-help
