Car expected to have a cat N write off

Hi,

I was in a minor accident the other day due to a woman stopping on a main road (it's a very confusing road system where everyone who is in the right needs to move to the left and vice versa) and I ended up rear-ending her at about 10mph. I went to the garage yesterday and they said that whilst there's nothing major, the insurance company have a habit of wanting to fix everything new (door, bumper bar, right wing) and so it would be an N write off. That's fine, we've talked through options and he reckons if I can get the car back with £1000 after I should be able to get second hand parts, fix it up and potentially still have spare money.

That being said, I had to attend my grandad's funeral on Sunday (it's a 9 hour drive away). The garage has said it's safe to drive and I've only just got in touch with the insurance company to open my claim (as I was intending on avoiding it but since the other woman is claiming on mine, I've already lost my NCB) so I wanted to know when I submit my quote/ pictures to the insurance company and they decide to write it off, will I still be legally allowed to drive? Will my insurance still be covered? If not, would I be okay to wait until Monday to submit my evidence to begin those proceedings? They've said once we agree on a price to sell, I can also buy it back for a percentage and once it passes a new MOT my insurance will continue on the same policy but I won't be able to get the parts together until next week and I really need my car until Tuesday.

You can drive it if it is safe to drive.

Their engineer will inspect at a day/time that suits you and submit their report and the insurers need to look at it and make a settlement offer so on....this wont happen before Sunday I am sure.
