It's not my place to but the couple feel intimidated by them so I doubt they will.
  • Is it a case of using previous jobs to tout their services? We used a bathroom fitter who does that, but he always asked permission first and the house is not identifiable.

If he is using them for that purpose without their permission then they just ring him and say they are not comfortable with it. It is quite usual though.

Usual to ask first though.... A) complain B) ask for a percentage of any new business obtained as a result :D
I need to think of something new here...

    They are self employed.

Complain and then if they don't stop then look for social media presence that you could put a message along the lines of "took photos without permission and showed them to prospective clients".

It's true, so you can't be done for slander etc. I suspect it would put people off and so they may be convinced to stop showing your photos.

Although you can't know if they have stopped.

They invited them in to do a job. They didn't invite them to take photographs of their possessions inside their home and share them.

They still invited them in. I appreciate that inviting people in and requiring them to surrender their phones is not something most people would do but they did have the option.

If they were paid to do a job, I presume they were a business. So publishing their breach of trust on any websites they use to advertise their services is an option.
Few people are capable of expressing with equanimity opinions which differ from the prejudices of their social environment. Most people are incapable of forming such opinions.

It's the sharing of photos of their possessions that is unsettling for them. The inner contents of their home.

It is not something that they, or indeed I would have thought someone would do.

They shouldn't need to be asked. Its ignorant and arrogant to presume you can take pictures inside someones home without their knowledge and consent. It demonstrates a lack of respect and empathy for the homeowner. Would you want people like that in your home?

Name and shame them locally explaining this is what you get when you employ them.
  • What do the photos show? Is it the job they did?

You do sometimes come across self-employed tradespeople who act as a law unto themselves. The worry with leaving negative feedback would be that they might retaliate in some way. Difficult one. Having recently had items pinched by removal men (who were also openly disrespectful) and elderly relatives having thing pinched by builders, I think it’s necessary to take precautions when letting anyone into your home now. Hide valuables and private documents etc in a locked room if necessary.
