Help to Buy - financial advisor?

Hi all

I am starting the process of registering my interest in a help to buy home in Wales. The step by step guide says I must get a financial advisor.

Has anyone had any experience of going through this process? I have arranged an MIP for the property so I don’t see why I need to go through the financial advisor?

If anyone has taken his route, what is the cost of the FA?

Many thanks for any help

We do not do HTB equity loans, but the MIP is just for the mortgage. There is also paperwork and checks that need to be done for the HTB equity loan.

I do not think you are limited to financial advisors but also mortgage advisors. Have you asked the HTB people if it is actually a requirement? As we do not do them, I am not best placed to answer the question, but no harm in asking.

Some mortgage brokers are fee free, others are not and may charge up £500 for a straight forward case.

  • From what I remember HTB only recommend you get a financial advisor - unless it's changed since I went through the process 18 months ago. We opted not to use a FA and everything went though fine.
