State Pension Class 3 NI contributions

Does anyone know when the increase in the shortfall for making class 3 NI contributions comes into effect. I thought it was from 6 April 2019, but my online NI account shows 23 April 2019?

Just checked mine and it is the same. Both mine and MrsM's that needed doing this year are done now anyway. All HMRC web links that I have checked still quote 5th April.

Have HMRC acknowledged the payments? How long did they take?

It depends... the official position is that the price is frozen up to 5 April so they reserve the right to increase on or after 6 April. When I telephoned recently they promised to charge me only the current price up until 21 April.

Mine has now moved to 26 April, looks like the date set at 4 weeks from when you look. I suspect it is a glitch rather than policy.

I have spoken to both the Future Pensions Centre and HMRC and they both say that it is the 5th of April.

It should be 10 working days. When mine failed to appear on my NI records within that period I rang up to make sure my bank transfer was successful. The advisor assured me it had and got my records updated the same day.

Many thanks for that. We'll give them a call. We know they've taken the money but they haven't acknowledged despite a request, so we've no way of knowing they've credited the correct years.
  • Due to an error i have not been paying Class 2 NI but have managed to go back to 2006 with it and HM RC's help. i am due to retire in July this year with only 15 years NI. Can i buy any further years at Class 3?

You cannot go any further back than 2006 and that far back is only due to a dispensation to ensure everyone could achieve the minimum 10 years required to receive a pension post 2016.
  • Dear Molerat,
Thank you for your reply, it's cleared up some of my confusion. I had hoped I could buy an extra 10 years over what I have managed so far. Thanks again James
