Wood for planters / raised beds
Options
Hi,
Im just getting back into fruit and veg at a new rental property. Not allowed to dig more beds but need more planting space. Looking at making raised beds / planters but what wood can i use? Ie treated, untreated, pallet wood ( free) loathe to line with plastic as trying to reduce plastic consumption, although could use old animal feed bags. Dont want veggies and fruit to take up leached poisons that we then eat.
Thankyou

you can use anything you like, but if it's not treated then it'll rot quicker. Old scaffold planks go for about 8 quid a plank for ones that they don't think are safe anymore but they'll be fine for edged beds.Non me fac calcitrare tuum culi0

Adding to Taff's spot on advice (I use old scaff boards too)
Don't be tempted to use nice big old railway sleepers, that's a definite chemical no-no
Crossing sleepers are supposed to be fine, as they're (supposed to be) untreated Jarrah
Why am I in this handcart and where are we going ?0 -
Thankyou. Will try and get hold of some.0

I used some old decking that I got from B&Q when they changed their displays 50p each.
A little bendy so if doing 2.4m beds 2boards high needs a post mid length or a divider board to stop them bowing out when full.
if going new barge/gravel boards can work and are cheap again long length need a post mid length.0 -

If your LL doesn't want you to dig more beds, is he/she going to be happy with raised beds? I can't see the difference.0
