1.2 Puretech engine - Peugeot
Has anyone here got real world experience of these? Are they as good as the reviews state?
TIA

The 1.2 engine is available is various states of tune, some turbo charged and with different power outputs 82, 110, 130HP
We have a Peugeot 5008 with the 1.2 130hp turbo engine and torque converter auto gearbox and love it. Brilliant car and reasonable economy, we get around 37-40mpg day to day and up to 49mpg on longer motorway journeys0 -
i have a 3008 manual, only thing i would say is first gear is quite short, so changing to second quickly is a must0

That's brilliant thanks.
I'm looking at getting rid of the 7 seater 2.0. VCDi manual we have currently as I tend to work a lot more from home now so travelling is a lot less. I looked at a 1 year old 308SW 1.2 auto Allure, seemed like a good spec for 12K.'Just because its on the internet don't believe it 100%'. Abraham Lincoln.

Saw this thanks, but people here are more likely to be honest!
The person with the 5008 getting nearly 50MPG on a run is the sort of comment I was looking for. That and reliability.'Just because its on the internet don't believe it 100%'. Abraham Lincoln.

We have a C1 with this engine (82BHP
It is perfectly fine and very economical and nice to drive
( the new C1s dont have this engine option anymore for some reason)0 -
I moved from a C4 picasso to a C3 aircross last year with a 1.2 Puretech engine.
If I compare the two, I miss the power, weight and space of my old car. I could throw it into corners and knew exactly how it would handle.
The new car is all mouth and no trousers really. It's a fun little car dressed up like a wannabe SUV. The engine is a little growly, but like a kitten. It sounds like it's trying to be a boy racer. I am enjoying it very much but find it lacks pulling power and as the car is lighter and smaller than my old one, I've had to relearn my handling skills.
In terms of economy, a lot of my driving is either on mountain roads or long trips, and I really don't see a big difference in terms of economy, which I'm surprised about. It costs me pretty much the same to do a regular 100km round trip in the new and old cars. Longer trips are more economical but not by a lot.
Reliability hasn't been an issue, but the car is only just one year old so I wouldn't expect it to be.I'm an adult and I can eat whatever I want whenever I want and I wish someone would take this power from me.

Puzzles me how they state the 3 cylinder engine is so well balanced yet only revs to 5500-6000rpm. Thats diesel territory, average petrol engine should rev to 7000rpm with little stress.
How are they claiming its a sudden new invention? Have they never been to Japan or done a little homework on how many Japanese manufacturers use 3 cylinder engines and have been for over 30 years?
Yes they may do 50mpg on a run, but they mentioned you need to have mpg in your mind all the way at every twist and turn and dont go near anywhere with other traffic.
Or you can drive a 2.2 diesel 1.5 ton estate and get even better mpg figures?
One of the reviews raved about the torque on the 1L Focus when it was released, then they need to take people and kit in teh car and the comment was it lacked torque on the hills which required plenty of gear changes. That killed the economy.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
I hired a 3008 and did 1100 miles in it over 8 day which had a 1.2litre 131hp Puretech engine. My normal daily drive is a 184 hp 2 litre C Class Mercedes. I was so impressed I have just ordered one. I spent the whole week thinking I was driving a 1.6 litre motor and only checked the specs the day the car was returned.
I got 43 mpg over the week but would have got the same mpg in the Merc with my style of driving.0
