EDF Huge final bill

Hi, I wonder if anyone else has been in a similar situation or knows what to do here...
I changed energy supplier and received a huge final bill which was taken from my account of £439. They claim we were underpaying for the last 14 months by about £30 hence the huge final bill. I have disputed this as I sent meter readings each time they asked throughout the 14 months but if we do owe this money fair enough. Is thee any way I can get the money back as it’s not fair to take this ‘back payment’ in one go and to allow me to underpay for 14 months... how is this ethical or fair? We can’t afford to pay £400 but if it was monthly we would have managed. Had this happened to anyone else i do I just have to swallow it?

Have you got copies of bills for the 14 months ? What is the bottom line on these - has there been a growing debit ?Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0

Have you been checking your bills or on-line statements to see how your account was doing.
Did you make sure that your meter readings were being used and that your DD's were matching your consumption.Never under estimate the power of stupid people in large numbers0
