BEWARE! "Motley Fool" email

Options
I have just received an email purporting to be from Motley Fool saying I have been entered into a "£5,000 off your credit card bill" competition and giving links for credit card deals.

Now I'm sure all you savvy Money Savings Experts will immediately have spotted where I am heading- this is, I am 99.9% sure, a scamming email.

The reason for the warning is that it is probably the best presented one I have seen to date.

I have forwarded it to the Fool for a response but consider this:

The from address is fool@foolmail.co.uk which is not their usual email format

I am not registered with Fool (Just to check I've also entered the email address they contacted me at on their login page and its not recognised)

Every link in the email, whether its "apply online" "terms and conditions" or the one that converted me from puzzled to very suspicious "manage your Fool membership here" sends you off to the same place. I haven't clicked it, just right clicked and looked at properties.

I'll report back the response (if any) I get from Fool.

Any Fool registered users here like to comment?

The foolmail.co.uk address is owned by the fool and they do run £5K off your CC bill competitions though all they ask for is your email address (no CC details).

    Hmmm very interesting!

The whole tone and content of their email implies (a) I am already a registered Fool and (b) I did something to positively enter this promotion.

Not happy at yet more spam but if I get the £5k I suppose I'll put up with it. Still not brave enough to click the link, just in case the from address has been spoofed.

  • I used a disposable email address, one of five hundred available, and am entered for the draw.
I gave no information other than the email address.

i joined ages ago, the link was though some other spam company, mutualpoints or mypoints as they were called at the time. the fool is excellent, they don't spam you, they send a weekly newsletter with financial articles and best buys for banks accounts, mortgages, etc. yes, they do make money from it but it's well worth reading :-)
