Recall question

Hi there.,

A friend of mine had to scrap a 4 year old car 2 weeks ago due to a blown engine issue.
Today she received a recall letter from Vauxhall for a generic engine fault.
The car has since been scrapped but does she have any recourse with the manufacturer due to the fact the fault was Vauxhalls?

Thanks roy

What evidence does she have that it was Vauxhall's fault?
  • Did that "generic" fault cause the engine to "blow" though? That would be very difficult to prove anyway, even if there is any likeleyhood of a possible claim from Vx. No doubt the engine was disposed of along with the car.
Completely separate but who would scrap a car at four years old when it could have been cost effective to have another engine fitted?
"had to scrap" really? Why had to?
zx81 beat me to it with a more condensed response.

I very much doubt they "scrapped" the car but sold it on for the appropriate value of a car with a blown engine. No doubt it will be back on the road in a couple of weeks time.

    How did the engine "blow"?
    What recall is it?

The recall is for preventative work to be done at no cost. Since the car has been scrapped, the work cannot be done. What "recourse" do you want?

Frankly, I'm surprised that it was uneconomical to repair a 4yo car. Is there more to it than just engine failure?
