Car Insurance - More expensive with private plate?

Morning,
Car insurance up for renewal in 3 weeks so i'm hunting around for quotes. I've got a private plate on my car and AXA insurance coming up more expensive than others at £399 a year. I saw my original plate on my saved quotes and thought i'd run it just to see what happened. Updated all my details and AXA then comes cheapest in at £329!
I know they'll change my plate if I took it out for free. Think its wise to take it out with my original plate then change it? Saves £60!

Always wise to save £60!
But obviously don't submit a false application! (You must insure with the correct car registration that is currently on the car)0 -

Do you mean they won't charge an admin fee?
They might still adjust your premium, to reflect the change in risk. (I guess the adjustment might be more or less than £60.)
... Because their claims history shows that people with private plates make more/higher claims etc.0
