Car Insurance - More expensive with private plate?

Morning,

Car insurance up for renewal in 3 weeks so i'm hunting around for quotes. I've got a private plate on my car and AXA insurance coming up more expensive than others at £399 a year. I saw my original plate on my saved quotes and thought i'd run it just to see what happened. Updated all my details and AXA then comes cheapest in at £329!

I know they'll change my plate if I took it out for free. Think its wise to take it out with my original plate then change it? Saves £60!

But obviously don't submit a false application! (You must insure with the correct car registration that is currently on the car)

Do you mean they won't charge an admin fee?

They might still adjust your premium, to reflect the change in risk. (I guess the adjustment might be more or less than £60.)

... Because their claims history shows that people with private plates make more/higher claims etc.
