Best way to invest £10,000

If you had £10,000 in your savings set to one side, what would be your choice on how to increase this amount and where would you invest it? Any advice would be appreciated - I am 20 years old so would maybe like to look long term but open to any advice/ideas!

You are asking the wrong question, the amount isn't that important.
What is the purpose of the investment. Timescale, end use ?

If I was 20 and had £10k and I intended to one day own a property, I'd open a LISA today and put £4k in it, and then in April I'd put another £4k it, and then I'd have £12k.

What I did next would depend on my ambitions and timescales.
  • As has been said, it depends on your goals, but if you're looking at long term a stocks and shares is a could be ideal for you. I've invested in them for years and done very well, no need to worry about income tax when you take money out. In this day and age global funds would be a good pick. 2 top quality funds are Lindsell Global and Scottish Mortgage Investment Trust. Both have brilliant track records and you can see their performance's at Trustnet.
