Switched from iPhone to Android.
Previously used my iPhone to pay for my shopping which usually comes to about £40.
Is it still the case that certain shops accept over £30 via google pay ?

Yes, although, with Google pay the phone only needs to be awake to pay under £30 but requires to be unlocked for anything over £30.
The amount of places you can actually pay for things over £30 is somewhat limited, but Todd is a limitation of the store's systems.
Aldi and IKEA are two that spring to mind where you can easily pay for any size of bill.Whilst my posts do not constitute financial advice, I am always, without fail, 100% right!0 -
Yep, as mrmajika says, it's up to the shop. Many have a limit for contactless payments, only a few make a distinction between the limit for contactless cards and mobile NFC payments.
Most supermarkets chains do, but I think we are still waiting for Tesco, Sainsbury's and Asda to join the fray.
I would think anywhere that accepts Apple pay over £30 also accepts Google Pay over £30. Not 100% sure on this but there's no reason they should distinguish between the two.0 -

Sainsbury’s has had >£30 mobile payments for a long time.I would think anywhere that accepts Apple pay over £30 also accepts Google Pay over £30. Not 100% sure on this but there's no reason they should distinguish between the two.
I tried to pay £42 in Aldi on GooglePay and it was refused, the same card on ApplePay worked fine to make the payment.====0 -

Most? You've just named the biggest 3.
Indeed! That's why I was careful to say most chains, and not most supermarkets, as most actual stores probably belong to one of those. Although d123 says Sainsbury's actually do. Which is great.
In addition to Aldi and Lidl, Morrisons, Waitrose, Co-Op and Iceland all do, I believe.
I guess the bigger the chain, the more of a job an update like this is.0 -

As you seem to have some inside knowledge - which Supermarkets do accept >£30 contactless? I know Aldi and Lidl do.
Morrison's also accept Apple/Google Pay for transactions above £30; I was shopping in their Piccadilly Gardens (Manchester) store yesterday and it was prominently displayed above their self service tills.
Tesco and Asda definitely do not, although I believe it's coming to Tesco at some point this year. It's not your credit score that counts, it's your credit history. Any replies are my own personal opinion and not a representation of my employer.0
