Currys - Terrible Instore Service

  • I bought a PC 7 weeks ago from Currys for my sons 11th Birthday. This weekend Vista wouldn't boot. Phone "The tech guys" they said "download and run this disk test" so I did this from my other PC and it failed so they said "new hard drive mate" we'll send one out. Seeing as the recovery disc didn't work, I asked for the operating system - Wow might as well have asked to impregnate their mother. Tech guy says "We have specific instructions not to supply operating systems for ACER", he says "Ring acer", well I phoned ACER and they says "Currys don't buy a warranty from us talk to Currys". What a bunch of responsibility shirking b*****ds. Went into the store got no joy from a big fat hairy woman. Quote sale of goods, threaten to sue, they said sorry we can't help you, you should have made back up disks, well they won't format a new drive I says, "Sorry we can't help you" fat hairy woman says.
Looks like a common vista problem not booting, got the recovery partition to boot using a Windows 2000 disk.
I will never shop in Currys, PC world or Dixons again.

...and that is why they will hopefully go to the wall.

I'm still looking forward to the day Woolworths dies.

When you either sell crap or treat customers badly you deserve to go out of business.

    1. 1st problem (which made me swear to never buy from them again) - I bought an Ipod because it said it came with free speakers, only it didn't arrive with any speakers. I called Currys to ask if they were on the way. Nope - apparently I didn't add them to my basket. Why should I have to add the freebie to the basket? I went back through all the pages to double check I hadn't missed it saying in big or small letters 'add to basket' nope. It took them 3 weeks to get a refund to me and I never did get my delivery cost back. I vowed I'd never shop there again....
    Only....

    2. 2nd Problem : Lucky me by boyfriend bought me a laptop for Christmas....unfortunelty from Currys. Although I was obviously delighted, when he told me it was from Currys I was a little dubious. I was right to be, within 6 months the right mouse button had completely stopped working. Still under warrenty I sent it to be repaired. They had it 6 days and when it came back not only had they not fixed the initial problem they'd somehow corroded the keyboard and created software problems too.

It went back again, another 6 days - mouse and keyboard fixed - software problems still - despite my bf asking them to check it thoroughly before we made the effort to drive over there and pick it up.

We did take it back and this time stood there until we were given a full refund at which point they took the computer off me. No offer to back it up or anything to say 'we're sorry'.

I also contacted the online customer service via email. Apparently they are distressed to hear of my problems (not as much as I am) but there's naff all they can do apart from offer me a free repair which I'd already get under my warrenty.

My advice do not ever buy from Currys because as soon as things go wrong you're on your own! You know a shops has very bad customer service when they need signs at the customer service point telling them you're not allowed to harm the staff in anyway despite how rude they are to you.
  • Yeah

this is a definate example of the store assistant having a "little bit of knowledge" which as we all know is a bad thing!

Agreed, you were badly treated, but you appear to have come out in front, so well done!

    Currys are carp.
Big signs everywhere saying they will price match local stores - when I asked them to price match Richer Sounds they refused, said they 'don't try and price match Richer Sounds'.
I pointed out they shouldn't have price matching signs up but they couldn't of cared less. I went to local John Lewis who DID price match RS.
(by the way I didn't buy from RS because they couldn't arrange convenient delivery for me and I didn't want to try and move a large flat screen TV myself)

We do price match Richer Sounds. I can confirm that.

We don't do it on a national level, as RS aren't a huge chain, but if there's one locally....we do
    Squirrel!
If I tell you who I work for, I'm not allowed to help you. If I don't say, then I can help you with questions and fixing products. Regardless, there's still no secret EU law.
    Now 20% cooler

Well then I suggest you contact the Milton Keynes branch and tell them.

Granted, I'm quoting a rather old post here. But still - I find this comment nicely ironic given that Woolies have now in fact bitten the dust!
