At last! Google maps is very poor when walking because you are going too slow for the GPS to figure out which direction your head in and I have used it a million times and every time you can walk for 50 yards in totally the wrong direction before it figures out which way you're heading making it pretty useless

You might be better off spending less time staring at your phone and more time acquainting yourself with your surroundings and applying basic common sense to determine your location.ChrisK..... wrote: »I have used it a million times and every time you can walk for 50 yards in totally the wrong direction before it figures out which way you're heading making it pretty useless0 -

Reads as needs a slower GPS .0 -
Look at map, look at surroundings, determine correct direction of travel, start walking.......Using that formula, I've not headed off on the wrong track yet with it.....;):DDrinking Rum before 10am makes you

I never understand how the walking directions spin around on the phone and go haywire. I mean phones have GPS, compass etc why doesnt it work properly like when using it in a car?0

I find that an ordinary hand-held compass can often tell me in what direction I am walking!
This can be useful when leaving an unfamiliar central London tube station by an arbitrary exit.0 -

Agreed... was in Seville Spain recently and it was/is a pain trying to work out which way you need to start walking.0 -
I find the OS maps is brlllent you can even turn round and it will tell you which way your are lookingDo you want your money back, and a bit more, search for 'money claim online' - They don't like it up 'em Captain Mainwaring0

Google Maps used to have an interesting bug (or maybe it was a deliberate Easter Egg) where if you plotted a trip across continents and selected walking it would actually suggest you go to the coast and swim across the Atlantic or Pacific or whatever.0

Or it maybe due to not calibrating the GPS/compass, have you calibrated them?Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0

Most modern smartphones should have a compass sensor inbuilt and Google maps and similar will know which direction you are facing without you even moving.0
