Car Stolen - Multiple Insurance Policies

Hello everyone.

While my fiancee and I were traveling across Europe, we had our car stolen with all of our belongings in. I have car insurance which has reimbursed us for the car but we are having trouble with claiming for the contents of the car. I have home and contents insurance and two sets of travel insurance with Natwest and Lloyds through their gold current account benefits. The home and contents insurance have a total limit of £2500 for this type of claim but cover everything. The current accounts do not cover "Valuables" which are things like electricals, jewellery, cash etc. In total there was over £10,000 worth of items in the car including laptop, mobile phones, cash etc

My question is, can I claim for the valuables from the home and contents insurance, and claim for the rest from the current account insurance's? i.e. are you allowed to have insurance polices to cover shortfalls in other policies? Thanks.

Bear in mind cover is generally subject to the items being locked in the boot or glove box

The whole car was taken so I suppose "everything will have been locked away". . .

'Mobile phones and cash etc'. may raise some eyebrows.

I think everything you mention would count as valuables/electricals though, wouldn't it?
But a banker, engaged at enormous expense,
Had the whole of their cash in his care.

  • Thank you for your reply's. Everything was locked away in the boot so no problem there. It was my Fiancees Birthday trip so there were gifts in the car hence the mobile phone, cash etc. We have receipts for nearly everything. There was also a large amount of clothing as it was a 2 week trip hence we are hoping to claim the "valuables" on home and contents insurance, and everything else on travel insurance.
