Worcester Bosch Combi Compact

Does anyone here have a Compact Combi boiler made by Worcester Bosch?

I've had a couple of people around (I want a Worcester Bosch boiler) but one or two of the installers have recommended I get a "normal" sized one as the compact sizes are a bit noisy.

Has anyone experienced this or found them to be noisier than a conventionally sized one?

I think you might find that noise is very subjective and is dependent on where the boiler is situated and how often it runs

One in the utility room may not be anywhere are obtrusive as one in the kitchen or even in an airing cupboard outside your bedroom.

Likewise what I think is acceptable you might find drives you mad - you really would have to listen to one yourself to be able to make a judgement.

I would also think that most people wouldn't know the difference as someone with a compact isn't likely to have experience of a standard one and vice versa.

WHICH has a comprehensive review of all boilers on the market, and noise is a factor considered. Well worth investin £1 to get a copy.

With due deference to the many gurus on here you could cast your net further and post your question on specialist Plumbing/heating forums;...many professionals and enthusiasts on these particular forums. I’ve posted many times and always had a good response.

The UKplumbers forum will be a particularly good platform for your question because many Gas Safe registered (GSR) heating engineers use it;...if you receive a reply from a member who has the tag ‘GSR’ in their profile you know they are a professional and not just a DIY’er. The forum procedure that allows members to use the GSR tag is very stringent,...they can’t just pretend to be GSR professionals!

We had one of the boilers installed a couple of years back. We actually found it quieter than the boiler it replaced (which we did not notice the noise of when we had it, but did notice the new boiler was even quiter) so are really pleased. Maybe it was because it was part of a new kitchen we had installed, so the boiler is now inside a cabinet - whist before the kitchen refurb, our old bolier was not enclosed.

Having said that, we have some freinds who also boxed in their boiler withing a matching cabinet when they had a new kitchen fitted (they did not have a new bolier) and said the cabinet effectively amplified the noise of the boiler. so later had the cabinet removed.

So not sure if the cabinet is insulating us from the noise of our new Bosch Compact Combi boiler, or whether it is so much quiter than our old boiler that we still find it quieter even when enclosed in a cabinet

Well that's good to know;...I'm in the process of having my kitchen completely re-vamped. I’m also replacing my old boiler (CH, not wife!) ;...I don’t like them on show so a new combi that can be hidden in a 600mm cupboard is what I’ll need.

Thanks for the advice guys. I did actually pose this on another forum but didn’t get anyone actually answer my question; it was just people arguing over what make Of boiler was the best!

We've had a WB Greenstar 32 CDi compact for about 4 years now. Noise is relative, but we've never found it obnoxious. It's loud enough that if you turn on the shower directly above it you can hear the DHW kicking in (which I like, I usually give a quick blast and then wait the few seconds for it to finish firing up so there's less cold water pouring out).
