Small office printer question

(PS. I hate printers) A small charity office near me has had a printer breakdown (old EPSON 4535 "printer error" - all lights flashing - possible error code 0200); they've bought a new printer as a matter of urgency. They're using inkjets. My question - would a laserjet be cheaper...

EPSON 4535 about 6 years old, almoet 100,000 pages printed, 75% black, 25% colour;
number of cartridges used over 60 (approx £600).

    A laser will be far far cheaper and faster than an inkjet. The toner will last longer and be cheaper thank ink.

    Black and white lasers are quite cheap to run, but colour ones are cheaper than ink, but generally more problematic and cost more than a single colour black toner one, and do not need transfer belt

  • One other thing to consider for a charity shop is whether technical expertise is available for when/if things go wrong. If the solution to any problem is just to replace, inkjets are cheaper to buy than (colour) lasers.

    (I used to informally help out with technical stuff at a charity shop. I ended up with a PC when their one "broke" and they bought a new one, and were just going to throw the old one out. It was just the hard disk that had gone.)

    I assume they wouldn't have room to have a mono laser for the b/w stuff, and inkjet for colour ? (Then again, thinking of my local charity shop, they would have struggled with knowing which print queue to use per job.)
