Crawley Leisure Park UKPC

Hi all,

A keeper has found a parking charge (£60) on their windscreen yesterday for ‘Not parking correctly within the markings of the bay or space’

In the below photos, you can clearly see that the car is parked on the end of a bay as the keeper is fed up of people parking close to them and damaging their car with their doors.

The car is clearly not causing any obstructions and is not infringing on any road markings.

The keeper has read the newbie thread so I am querying whether the keeper still has to go through the usual process (wait 26 days etc)?

I have seen a similar recent thread in regards to this car park and the keeper will be contacting the local MP. Is this clear cut or should the advice in the newbie thread be followed.

That won't help you at all I'm afraid. You're going to have to beat this on technicalities, so follow the advice in the NEWBIES FAQ sticky, post #1.

You might be able to argue that the space used was not clearly demarcated as a no parking bay (why wasn't it yellow hatched or a prohibiting sign on the wall at the head of the bay?), but keep clear of arguing about avoiding your car getting 'dinged'.

Thanks a lot for your swift and informative reply, really appreciate it.

For information the bay is a parking spot and it’s been regularly used over the past 4.5 years by not just the keeper but also by other drivers.

So why are UKPC ticketing you on it?

I wish I knew! Honestly I was absolutely flabbergasted when I saw the reason for the ticket.

It’s the only reason I wrote this thread, it seems ridiculous it’s even a talking point. Should I just straight appeal or is it a bad idea?

I use that car park all the time - I know why they ticketed you.

There are a few dead spaces dotted around that car park (the whole thing I mean) that could be additional bays in an incredibly busy car park. They don’t make they proper bays, so people park “illegally”.

You got frustrated at driving around in circles trying to park, so you make a judgement and park in a space.

They come along & get their little windfalls!

Well here's one they won't be getting!

Yes, appeal - but around day 26. This starts the process of getting shot of this. Please read the NEWBIES FAQ sticky, post #1 and learn about the day 26 strategy.

The funny thing is, the car park was relatively empty at the time! Oh well, lesson learnt I suppose.

Thank you for all the advice, there is 100% no markings indicating that is not a space so fingers crossed for a positive response.

Just so as you know, there's little chance of any positive response from UKPC, they're in the business of issuing tickets, not cancelling them. But you need to go through their appeal hoops to eventually access POPLA where we will help you win this.

You really must read that sticky fully and carefully - it's not a skim read. Settle down with a cuppa and notepad and pen.
