I was going to do that as well so there is a paper trail but sometimes I think it might be best to do it face to face so they are somewhat off guard. I know when things are done over phone / email they sometimes then start preparing what to say to you next. Then they call or email back once they've spoken to someone more senior who have told them what to say.0 -

Do it by letter, to Head Office (copy local office) or by email if you must.
Enclose copy of relevant document and either highlight relevant wording or refer to section number in your letter.
Face to face they are unlikely to admit liablity, can deny it later, and have no time to review your (apparantly) incontravertible) evidence.
And there's a paper trail.0 -

Theres an obvious reason. They would like you to pay them the whole cost (labour plus materials plus profit) that they were banking on. They are either ignorant of the terms or hoping that you cave in before reading your contract.0 -
Well I have been in to the sales office today and told them our decision, they actually were not as pushy as I thought.
One of the advisers who actually sold us the house did say when I mentioned the choices we added, that what we have to pay will depend on what has been fitted, so that's when I said about the paperwork states 25% only.
After this she seemed to accept that and I said I had already paid £1500 which I accept I will loose. Apparently what I paid initially might not have been 25% so may have to pay another £1000 more. If this is the case I will accept that as per the terms. I have also put my decision that we are pulling out in writing confirming I accept to pay 25% of the choices costs. Hoping that will be the end now but they will only advise head office on Monday she said so just hope there is no comeback from them!0 -
Best of luck then.
Seems strange you don't have costings for, or know the costs of, the various upgrades though.
I guess if money is no object then you just tick all the things you want, but most of us look at the prices too.......!!
Or is it that some of the selected items may not have yet been fitted so would not be charged for (either at full or 25% rate)?0 -
Looks like you've got it sorted - well done. As an aside, we bought our present house over 30 years ago. We were cash buyers of a brand new house and the people who were originally going to buy had chosen all sorts of dross (think sage green bathroom suites etc etc). I still feel guilty that we 'stole' their home from them (as we could proceed within weeks) but am glad that their choice of sanitary wear and tiles have long since gone!#2 Saving for Christmas 2024 - £1 a day challenge. £325 of £3660

We actually negotiated around £4000 off the upgrades not that long ago so I have a receipt for them for a total of £5667.22. However it shows a number of items as free of charge and I don't know what the costs were originally. Because we are pulling out now they will look at what the total cost would have been before any negotiation, which is around the £10,000 mark. So 25% is about £2,500, I will be keeping quiet unless they say we need you to pay a bit more in which case I accept I will have to.0 -

Not sure I fully understand what you might have to pay or why, but I think what you want is some kind of written statement from them, as it seems a bit complex, that they accept what you have offered and consider everything finalised.0 -

That is bizarre. Why would you be held to 25% of the pre-negotiated price? That's like the Inland Revenue taxing you for a salary you might have had.
You owe 25% of £5667.22 = £1416.81. Send them this as a cheque for full and final payment with a copy of the relevent contract highlighted.Gather ye rosebuds while ye may0
