Heating

After seeing Martin on GMTV this morning. I have been looking around for a grant for central heating in our home.

We bought our house last December (2006). We have no central heating at all. And because it's only my husband that works, we are finding it really hard to save up for the central heating system. After all the bills etc have been paid, there is nothing left to save up with.

I have rung Warm Front, our local council, and NPower. But because we are not on any benefits, we can't get any grants.

I think it's digusting how the Government isn't helping everyone, esp those that are working class.

It is absolutely freezing in this house. No wonder I keep getting alot of illnesses. And trying to recover from a thyroid operation.

  • If you are a senior citizen I think you should qualify for help although I don't know if you have to be on benefits too.
  • No we're not senior citizens. Even though being so cold as we are, I certainly feel like it
  • Hi Cheybies,

we are exactly in the same boat. We cant afford central heating after all our bills are paid and not entitled to anything as we dont get any benefits and work full time for our money. The house is absolutly freezing and when we use electric radiators its costing us a fortune so most of the time we sit in the cold and we seem to be getting sick all the time. Also the back bedroom is getting damp coming through the walls (end terraced house) as its so cold in there.

The amount of people around here that "wont" work, live off benefits and are getting free central heating which is being paid for by our tax.......... I wonder if there is any help out there for us who work and dont get benefits??
reclaimed charges from lloyds tsb: £360
    tesco clubcard points: 1291
    greasypalm: £6.90
  • I'm in the same boat, I've spent years saving for my first home, which I've now bought but cant afford to replace the faulty heating system with anything. I've got plans but paying for them is another matter.

As a single bloke who's working and not on any benifits I can't get any help. As such I've had to take on a second job. (so now no time to work on my house!) And info on grants for heating on insulation would be welcomed!
