Floating floor without joists HELP

Hi

My builder has glued 22mm chipboard making a floating floor straight on top of insulation in my new extension it's moving in places and creaking/squeaking all over the place, when we complained we were told it will settle down and will stop creaking/queaking !! Should the boards of been laid on joists ?

The builders are not back till Monday so have a few days to see what we can find out

Thanks in advance

No they don't get laid on joists as it will be a concrete floor.

They should maybe have used insulated chipboard flooring like this though https://www.specifiedby.com/panel-systems-ltd/styrofloor-insulated-chipboard-flooring with the insulation already attached.

I have similar boards and they don't creak. Not sure yours will stop being noisy though as they will always move.

Too little information to be able to help. Which floor, what’s the floor made of? What will you be putting down as the eventual flooring?

This link explains what is probably best practice for laying these sorts of floors: https://www.kingspan.com/gb/en-gb/products/insulation/kingspan-insight/articles-and-advice/why-and-how-to-construct-a-floating-floor

It is likely that the builders have not followed some of the steps, e.g. wedging the boards until the glue dries, not gluing the joints, not laying polythene over the insulation to act as a slip layer. You might be getting the noise just because the wedges are still left in and have not yet been replaced by a compressible filler.

    Hope this helps.
The comments I post are my personal opinion. While I try to check everything is correct before posting, I can and do make mistakes, so always try to check official information sources before relying on my posts.

The extension is 7.5 metres by 3 metres and has a concrete base then 50mm installation and finally 22mm chipboard we are planning on putting down a thick underlay and carpet
