I was browsing on another site and as soon as I went on to a topic,a message appeared from the above:
Dear Vodafone customer.
You have been selected for chance to get rewards:
- Apple iPhone XS
- Samsung Galaxy s9
- £200 Aldi Gift Card
Attention , number of rewards are limited .
Press ok to continue !

IP: 90.241. 9.125

Bizarrely , I was on my iPad when I got this .
I phoned Vodafone who were very helpful . They put a block on my phone ,just incase I press button and get charged a small fortune .
They also advised me to clear history etc on my browser.
How these "3rd parties" got my IP address and sent this is because omce you press 'agree' whenever you browse somewhere then your data Is given out to scammers like this .

I don't know how much damage I have done to my preferences, but I had to reset my password here and the other site as I wasn't recognised. Pita , but what's done is done .

Any website you visit knows your IP address. It's how the Internet works.

Use an ad blocker and this kind of nonsense will be blocked. But as above it's nothing to worry about.

As above. Your IP address is used to receive the data fromthe website so of course it is known to it !!


And , no one 'sent' you anything .. It was a pop up/under advertisement that's all.


But, as you sound like the prime case to have a malware riddled machine, download this free tool and do a scan.

Bizarrely enough, when opening the app , it's not available in my country . I understand now that it's just advertising etc and nothing to worry about:o
It was how quickly I got the pop up that alarmed me causing me to panic .

I use ublock and noscript, that website had no information until i allowed it in noscript.

It can be a pain for some sites though, you may have to allow many links to other domains. But you then get to see where your data is going.
