The obvious question to ask is why do you want to invest specifically in US equities?

Buying individual shares is expensive and risky, and collective investments such as funds will generally be a more balanced approach, but even then it would be unusual to go specifically to US equities rather than diversifying on a broader basis.

Your list of brokers would seem to suggest that you have trading in mind rather than investing - what sort of activity are you planning?

I have an account with TD Ameritrade US from when I lived there. Decent service and trading facilities for shares and options. They have operations in some countries outside the US, e.g. Canada, Singapore, Hong Kong etc.

Rather than trying to open an account with a US brokerage from outside the US, it's generally more practical to use a brokerage in your home country which offers access to overseas (including US) markets. For example I am in the UK and use a local UK-based broker AJ Bell Youinvest, to buy US, HK and European shares in my ISA and SIPP accounts. This is a UK forum and so few people will have direct experience of using non-UK brokers.

If you don't know the difference between the S&P 500 and the S&P Total Market Index I don't think you are ready for overseas company shares, it could be a very costly mistake. Perhaps spend a few weeks doing basic research and devise another plan

Vanguard U.S. Equity Index Funds produce good results but they only track the S&P500

You could do worse than spend 15 minutes reading this

There are many UK brokers who let you trade US shares directly. Pick one that lets you keep your money in dollars to avid conversion to and from £ every time.

ii do, no doubt there are others.
