Is the device you used inSSIDer on capable of 5 GHz Wi-Fi?
Looks like this is a good question, while there are versions of the 7260 that are dual band it seems like the standard is to just have 2.4 GHz, and I suspect that's what mine is. I probably thought it might have both as a previous laptop did.
I think the printer (Samsung M2835DW) is broadcasting it's wifi signal to enable direct connection without going through the router, although it's not the way I connect.0 -
The fact that you've been doing that for years only means that you have been doing the wrong thing for years, nothing more.Sorry but that's just rubbish. I've been doing that for years and never had an issue. You will have much less interference than the intermod you'll get from being on the same channel as nearby access points.
If you have time and want to learn, google "CSMA/CA" (Carrier-sense multiple access with collision avoidance).
If you use the same channel, CSMA/CA can operate and there is no interference among the devices sharing the channel. If you use an overlapping channel, CSMA cannot operate and you increase exponentially the number of loss packets.
Obviously it will still work (you will have noticed that, even if you use adjacent channels, your devices won't explode), but that's far from ideal and far from best practice.
(the Cisco's CCNP certification should mean something).0
