Issues with Amex balance transfer?

I’ve seen several threads here relating to the issues with balance transferring from Amex to Barclaycard but this has an extra issue.

I have a BA Amex credit card.

First I tried to balance transfer online to no avail so rang up and they tried on the phone which also failed. Following this, I requested they send this to the tech team for them to manually make the balance transfer. I rang back today after they didn’t return the call they said they would make and after getting passed higher and higher up I finally got told that the tech team weren’t able to process this balance transfer because my American Express credit card was issued in Australia. They acknowledged this not to be the case as it is a BA card and I have never stepped foot in Australia so said they would send the details of the transfer to the tech team again to try. She said that if that fails then it looks like they can’t do anything more to make the transfer happen even though I haven’t done anything that would make the transfer invalid.

I also rang American Express and they assured me that my card was definitely issued in the UK and that there shouldn’t be an issue with a balance transfer.

If the tech team reject this balance transfer again, which I’m assuming they will do. What is the next step to getting Barclaycard to find a way to make this transfer work?

Thanks in advance

If it's a 15 digit card, it won't go through.

A money transfer card would be a way round it, albeit more expensive.

I made balance transfer from my amex PRG to HSBC credit card without problems.

Banks may automatically identify a issuer with card BIN code. Barclaycard probably hold out-of-date BIN data, have you tried to ask them to search issuer by name or insert payee's name manually?

Having recently moved into a new flat and made, and will make, several big purchases I am looking to open a credit card that has a good 0% rate on both purchases and balance transfers. Buys so far have been on my boyfriends BA amex card so I would be looking for a card provider that allows 1) transfers from another person and 2) balance transfers from an AMEX card. From what I can see Virgin would allow no 1. if I named boyfriend as a second card user, which I can and will happily do, but do you know they're position on BA Amex? Any information/advise welcome.

Virgin apparently need the card to be underwritten by a UK bank.... which, from looking at uswitch would mean that I wouldn't be able to transfer from the BA card as its underwritten by AMEX.

I think it is incumbent on MSE to ensure there is sufficient detail on the ongoing Amex transfer issue on all relevant pages.

I recently took the advice here and opened a Sainsburys CC purely for the purpose of an Amex balance transfer only to discover later they don’t accept balance transfers from Amex.
This is not stated anywhere prominent on the MSE website nor the Sainsburys CC site.
I feel a little misled tbh

I’ve now done some more homework and have applied for a Tesco Bank CC having been assured they will take the transfer.

    Expect better advice from MSE.
