Best way to invest £30K

I'm shortly coming into £30k and would like advice how to invest it.
Savings are completely alien to us, we simply haven't had the spare money over the years.
We don't really need to touch the £30k at all, we manage fine on our earnings, but would like to be able to get to it in the case of emergency.
So maybe an account that would allow access in a week/month.
We wouldn't be adding to the £30k at all, so no accounts that need regular topping up.

How about considering a sole each and a joint Nationwide Flexdirect account if you have never had one before? There would also be the opportunity of the Regular saver each.
And a sole each and a joint TSB Classic plus current account (all registered for paperless)?
You can fund NW from TSB and TSB from NW - matching mid month same day Standing Orders from each to other works well.

If you live near a Virgin Store, consider the branch monthly saver for each of you.0
