Joint account / divorce

Options
Good afternoon,
So my other half split with his wife in 2015.... they are just in the last stages of there divorce (the 6 weeks wait until he can send the absolute stage) . From my understanding they did have a joint bank account with NatWest. From the start I told him he needed to take his name off it, when I rung NatWest for advice on this the woman told me that he wouldn’t be able to take his name off the joint account as it takes both parties to do so, and that if he did make them aware they were separated, the account which the ex wife is still using would be frozen until she confirms also.
He hasn’t done this still.
He spoke to his ex wife about the account and taking his name off, to which she replied that she had ‘sorted iy’ , and being the trusting man he is. He’s believed her.
I don’t.
He hasn’t lived the in the marital home for almost 4 years now, but his son found 2 letters recently addressed to him that had been hidden off NatWest regarding some transactions that had tried to be taken from an account but as no funds were in it iy wasn’t taken. The letter was only addressed to my OH, not both of them so could this be a single account?
When he questioned his ex wife on this she left a note on the envelope saying it didn’t concern him but the kids insisted on bringing the letters anyway...
Fishy.
I can only do so much. It’s his accounts and they won’t speak to me.
Do you think he should speak to the bank himself regarding these accounts? He doesn’t have any details etc for them but I’m guessing his name would be enough?
Help would be appreciated x

    ?

Banks can (and do) write separately to joint account holders.

Does your partner have a sole account with Natwest which still has his old address recorded on it?

Perhaps he should contact Natwest as they suggest.

He doesn’t remember! He said he is pretty sure he only ever had a joint account. The transaction twice was for something regarding his daughters after school activity so I’m presuming it’s a joint account.
    I’m
Gonna have to get the wheels in motion I think incase she puts him in any more debt and he will be liable.

He could check his credit files (with the three rating agencies), where any current accounts will be shown: https://www.moneysavingexpert.com/loans/check-free-credit-report/

If he's not absolutely 100% sure about what accounts he has/had then he should have established this as part of the divorce proceedings, where he'd have had to be signing legally binding declarations about his finances, but better late than never I suppose....

He just need to let the bank know they are separated and they will put the account in dispute so it can’t be used.
