Hi.
Anyone recently done this?
How do you register for online banking, it keeps going on about a telephone key that I don't have ( another form says they will send me one when I send a form to them with memorable words, which is readable by HSBC staff )
I'm missing something here?

The best thing is to ring them up; there is a number on their website specifically to obtain a telephone key.
Once you get through they will help you to set up the online banking and mobile app. It's rather a palaver, but they're quite helpful.A cunning plan, Baldrick? Whatever it was, it's got to be better than pretending to be mad; after all, who'd notice another mad person around here?.......Edmund Blackadder.0 -

Took about a week to receive the number once I sent the forms in. The number you get back is like a PIN, so no one will know what it is other than you.0 -
I rang HSBC the day I received my debit card and they gave me security access over the phone to enable use of online banking.I work within the voluntary sector, supporting vulnerable people to rebuild their lives.
I love my job0 -

It'll be faster and easier to call HSBC or pop into a branch to sort this out - I remember getting these forms to set up my memorable data but then weeks later I still hadn't heard back and they claimed they never received them - as pointed out above there is a dedicated number for this and it is actually a very straightforward process (a rarity from HSBC). Once you've got the telephone key you can sort out online banking, although if you elect for a physical secure key this might limit how much you can use the account until it arrives (usually about a week after you request it)0 -
phoned helpline and they basically said its in the post. that was a few days ago.0

I have had the same issue, plus more! I am hopping mad because I can't access my own money and they didn't transfer all of my direct debits!0

I got a question wrong over the phone about how big the overdraft was on the account (knew i’d only taken the minimum but couldn’t remember what the minimum was) so had to go to a branch to set it up.
To be fair, that was quick and easy but there’s a branch 15 minutes from me, would have been a pain otherwise.
The bigger problem was that when I paid in a cheque, rather than just not allowing the cheque to clear until they were satisfied they put the funds in my account and then froze the whole account until the cheque was fully clear! I would pay cheques or cash or any other large amounts into another account if you have one.0 -
Different question, but looking to switch to HSBC. Recently retired so on paper dont earn enough to fund the £1,750 a month, but this will not be a problem. If I put my yearly pension are they likely to turn me down for the account due to income being too low? Has anyone done this or had problems when doing this? I dont want to waste my time applying if likely to be turned down.0

If you're really keen to switch to HSBC, but don't have the earnings on paper to fulfill the conditions for the Advance account, you could apply for their Bank Account, where the pay in is only £500 per month and if you're over 65, you don't even need to pay that amount in.
That account would bag you £75 for a full switch and their Regular Saver is 3% for that account.A cunning plan, Baldrick? Whatever it was, it's got to be better than pretending to be mad; after all, who'd notice another mad person around here?.......Edmund Blackadder.0
