How to replace my RF wireless Thermostat with a smart thermostat

Hi All
I have a boiler which is controlled by a thermostat (says : Drayton RF on it) which is RF (radio frequency) wireless, means it is NOT connected to any wires on the wall but the thermostat is just mounted on the wall and we can carry it around. I am planning to buy a smart thermostat which can be controlled via an app or mobile phone. Does anyone know how I can go about doing this ?..

Facts that I know : My current RF wireless thermostat mounted on the wall is removable. In the wall mount its not connected to any wires, however, there is 1 little thick wire which has inside it about 4-6 different colour wires, but Only red and blue are outside visible and they are just there in the wall mount box not connected to the current thermostat.

I hope I am clear and please if anyone can advise ?...many thanks.

Do you have a model number for the current thermostat ?

The RF thermostat will need an RF receiver which is the bit that actually turns on/off the boiler. That might be attached to the boiler, or perhaps it is the wall mount itself ? (Assuming that it's been fitted to replace an old-fashioned mechanical thermostat which is wired to the boiler.) Or the wires in the wall mount might just be left behind from when a mechanical thermostat was replaced.

eg http://www.gasapplianceguide.co.uk/drayton_digistat_rf_programmers.htm shows the display unit plus an 'Digistat SCR' which is the bit that is wired into the system.

It's the wireless thermostat receiver that is the key, find that and get the model number then post it back here.

Changing the thermostat for a smart thermostat might give you some control over the system, but you might find that you have to replace the programmer unit as well, if it is separate.
Changing the world, one sarcastic comment at a time.

I just leave the programmer set to 24-hour CH, and let my thermostat do all the work, such as setting to a low temperature overnight. (Not smart though - just 6 time/temperature settings per day.)

The wires in the wall are from and old thermostat, possibly 5 cores, only 2 of which were needed for the older dial type stats.

The important thing is to know exactly which boiler you have. From there it is a simple process to know what terminals on the boiler are connected to the current thermostat, could be plugged in type connection, and what you will have to do to connect a smart thermostat. It really is a simple process, though I should point out the regs state, if it involves removing screws from casing, this can also include decorative casing, that forms part of the combustion circuit, then it must be carried out by a qualified Gas Safe engineer.

Read the regs you'll find it.

Gas Safety (Installation and Use) (Amendment) Regulations 2018.

Fact Sheet - Who Can Legally Undertake Work on a Gas Appliance 2104

Gas Safety (Installation and Use) Regulations 1998

    Absolute rubbish.

You really should not post about things that you don't understand, it's not the first time!

Most gas safe fitters are not qualified to work on electrical installations and sub contract work like this to electricians.
