No VIN plate
Last year my daughter bought a secondhand car (15 plate) from a reputable dealer who MOTd it before the sale. Yesterday she took it to another garage for it's new MOT and they can't find the VIN number. She has taken it to yet another garage (in the same chain as the first) and they can't find it either. She has left several messages with the sellers and they haven't phoned back. How do we go forwards with this? She can't get it MOTd and presumably would have great difficulty selling in. Would the seller be liable for a) selling it in the first place and b) MOTing it without the plate?

Take it to the same place that did last years MOT and see how they get on. What model is it? What's in place where the VIN should be?0

It was MOTd by the garage that sold it - it's not local, so really want to find out how things stand before I head over there and start banging on the counter. It's a Peugeot 108 and the other two garages have checked all the places it should be and there is nothing at all.0

Yes the MOT is fine. Just not sure how they could pass it with no VIN plate.0

First place to check is the base of the windscreen, there should be a small window with the vin printed on a piece of paper. This can go missing when the windscreen is replaced.
There will be a pale coloured label stuck in one of the door openings, check under the lock striker plate or near the hinges, if this one is missing it is likely the car has had some serious repair work or is a ringer.
The final place to look is under the bonnet along the top of the inner wings for a stamped in vin number. Peugeot do like to hide this one under trip on some of their models.0 -
The VIN is in several places, Door plates, bonnet plates, visible in the windscreen, also easily worked out from the engine number.
Are you saying they are all missing?Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -

The last Mot may have just copied the information from the Mot before that. It's easier for them.0
