identity Angel Scam

My son recently had financial difficulties and had a lot of pay day loans on the go at the one time (not sure how that is allowed). Anyway things have improved but he noticed that 2 payments for about £35 had come off his account under the name "identity Angel". It appears to be a company that will protect your identity for a monthly fee. He has no recollection of signing up for this. They were taking money from his bank card details. Bank was informed and card cancelled (hopefully no more can come off). He cannot get any response from email and the phone just rings out, hes hoping to get a refund of the 2 amounts. When I look into this type of company it seems to be same for lots of people where they didn't sign up and had money effectively stolen. They appear un contactable! I think they change their company name regular as I found some reviews for a similar company and the stories were the same.
It is awful that they can get away with this and I wondered if anyone had any advice?
There are some awful reviews on trust pilot under the name" Identity Report"
I am unable to attach the link due to forum rules but on this you can see all the other people in same position.

If he didn't sign up, how did they get his card details?I came into this world with nothing and I've got most of it left.0

Maybe he did sign up but failed to tell his Mum.
The mention of payday loans may just be a red herring.
Or maybe he was offered this by a payday loan company and said yes because he thought he might not get the loan if he said no or maybe he had a free trial then failed to cancel during the free trial period. Who knows.0 -
Their website is down and I can only see their terms etc by referring to Google's cache of their site.
I also note that the business WAS based in a Regus serviced office on a roundabout in Barking.
They trade as ACH Marketing Ltd (so there is a real company that you could launch a MoneyClaimONline claim against).
I see that ACH have left London and moved the registered office to Stockport in Feb 2019:
14 Lisburne Lane Lisburne Lane, Offerton Stockport Cheshire SK2 5PZ
The guy behind it is a Joseph Dixon, aged 28. I note that he gives his address at Companies House as 458 Chester Road Stockport - a very nice detached house that was purchased in 2015 for £855k.
The above address seems to be his parents place with the business registered at his place - dad runs a fencing business.
Good luck - might be worth a little pressure.0 -
The bank said all they could do was cancel card as he must have inadvertently signed up. They would have got his bank details from the payday loan company. As lots of people have the same complaint I do feel there's something underhand going on here where its not obvious what you are signing up for ie £35 per month. Who would sign up for this when they are already having money problems? Thanks for all your replies I will continue to research based on the info you have kindly given me. Its a principle thing now. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

Cancelling the card won't achieve anything.
He needs to ask them to cancel the CPA.
Money may still be owed to the company depending on what he's actually signed up to, but cancelling the CPA will at least force it out into the open.0 -
Poppy10 your comment is very unhelpful.
Zx81 can you explain what CPA is please? This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Seems to be some connection between payday loans and this company, and old thread here where someone wanted a payday loan but signed up for this...
https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/comment/73047041#Comment_73047041I applied for a few loans last week and they all asked for my account number and sort code before checking my credit status. I was tricked into an Identity Angel subscription which took £34 from my account two days ago.
Some mention of it being a tickable box to sign up on a loan form.0
