Ah missed the ops post on the box being smashed as well.

    Must have been some impact.

Op you need to get in touch with the utility company to get their box replaced.

And has been said post some pics of all damage. It would help re advice etc.

Doubt they will be interested, maintenance of the box is usually the responsibility of the householder.

I don’t understand how they can think this isn’t their fault.

That's simple, it is because you drove your car into the meter box. Nothing to do with the delivery driver. It a driver's responsibility to ensure that they do not drive into anything when manoeuvring or parking their car.

Even if you can prove that the delivery driver left the meter door unlocked this would not negate the fact that the driver should check for obstructions.

If its the white plastic door on meter box I have its quite robust. It will stand up to a fair bit punishment. Unless its hit by a large object.

My old house was on a long, straight cut de sac that was high up on a hill. When the wind picked up it turned the street into a wind tunnel.
If you walk up the street one thing you'll notice is the majority of meter box doors up there are either missing or smashed to smithereens simply through the wind.
OP describes a very plausible scenario, especially considering the storms of last week.

Is the correct answer...they wouldn't even supply me with a £3 hinge pin when I enquired and told me it was my responsibility to repair.
  • Can you clarify if it blew into the stationary car, or the wife reversed into it while it was open please?

From the OP, it seems that they happened simultaneously.
