Task / Marston Group

Anyone had any problems with Task / Marston Group?
My son was billed for several (19) fines that were committed after he sold his car. However an "Agent" from Task called while he was away at Uni and demanded £545. I had proof upstairs that he was innocent, he wouldn't listen and told me I had only a few minutes to pay or the fine would go up further. I paid (under duress) ... I was petrified actually. He would not look at any paperwork and said I had to pay or they would take goods from "my" home to the same amount.
Eventually 8 days later I got the money back. They tell me they've done no wrong, but have offered me £100 anyway. Any advice would be welcome. Oh yes, to add insult to injury he had already clamped a car on the road outside that they 'thought' was my son's whose debt they were chasing and not bothered to tell us until after we paid....it was not even his car!

  • I would imagine plenty of people have trouble with these scumbag 'debt' collectors UNLESS of course your one of the few people who understand a little of the Law and know what these clowns can or cannot do legally.

You didn't HAVE to pay the Goon who turned up at your door, they cannot just waltz into your property and start taking goods without proof that they belong to the 'alleged debtor' you were under NO OBLIGATION to talk to him or even identify yourself (which of course you should never do!!)

They cannot clamp vehicles UNLESS they are on your private property, I think?? they can only clamp when on public road.

You should have told him to F**k off, watch Youtube about how to deal with doorstep debt beggars, they rely on their bullying tactics to frighten people into paying that's the lowest of the low and that's what they are.

You were lucky to get the money back even though we all know you're in the right, just educate yourself in how to deal with these issues and you can get on with your life.

I hope the person whose vehicle was clamped has made a complaint to the Police as I believe that would be a criminal offence.

Personally I would take the £100 as long as there is no mention of the words "without prejudice" attached to the offer.

I suggest you contact Bailiff Advice Online and ask them what you should do.
Sheila from that company posts on here as Herbie21 and has a good reputation on MSE.

Beware that there is another website with a similar name, so ensure you use the one showing an open law book on the home page.

Of course they have done wrong. I would not settle for less than £500 and my legal costs. How much does a Q.C. cost nowadays?
You never know how far you can go until you go too far.
  • Much appreciated, thank you all. :)
I have contacted the help line as suggested.
I had never been in this situation before and I honestly thought it was a policeman calling so didn't hesitate to let him in.
I would be wiser if it ever happened again though. Hopefully it won't!!! It's not a nice experience.
  • Even if it were a Policeman (and I'm pro-Police) you still wouldn't HAVE to let him in UNLESS he had 'just cause' OR a Warrant.

Have a read around this Parking forum, it might give you a bit more of an insight into to just how Parking Scammers operate should you ever find yourself in the unfortunate position of having to deal with them again.
