Car Insurance urgent advise needed

HI,

I hope someone can give me some advise on what i should do.....

In April i was convicted for driving uninsured (was only past a day or so But still stupid i know ) I was given 6 points and a fine, When i called my new insurance company Chruchill about 2 months after , They advised me to call back once i had received my license back. Due to travelling etcand it not turning up for ages i didn't get these back until now.

I contacted Chruchill on tuesday to add the points on and the insurance on my MGF has rocketed to nearly £400 a month !! :mad:

My policy has 4 months left and i cannot cancel as i had an accident in May.If i cance; they say il'll owe then 4k for the accident costs !

I cannot afford the £400 a month insurance, and Chruchill have given me until tomorrow to find a lower bracket car (1.1) to insure for £187.00 per month still very high but better than the 400.

anyway I would like to know if they can do this? I simply cannot find the £400 a month to keep my MG, I cannot sell it that quickly and find a local ok car (under £500) in this time.

what could they do if i dont find one by tomorrow? I'm stessing out looking in auto trader etc but nothing in my price range or insurance range !?

Can anyone advise me on any alternative ?

Firstly, did you mention the motoring conviction - that was presumably pending at the time - when you set the policy up?

If you did, they should really have rated your premium assuming that you would recieve an IN10 endorsement and 6 points (this is generally par for the course for driving without insurance). I'm guessing that they did not do this.

Regarding cancellation, they cannot charge you the accident costs. They can, however, insist that the remainder of the annual premium is paid in full.

Personally I would raise a complaint - the complaints procedure will be specified somewhere in your documentation. If you told them about the pending prosecution at the time the policy was set up, IMO the insurer has handled the quotation of the policy in a very poor manner.
