Car written off

Hi,
Had an accident 3 weeks ago, not my fault, old car, driver side scrapped.
Insurance passed all dealings to an Accident Management company, they took the car away for assessment an hour away from mine.
After chasing for 2 weeks for updates, I finally got told by the Accident Management company that the car is Cat B and a cheque is on his way to mine, as they have agreed with 3rd party, the costs.

They haven't given me a copy of the car report for Cat B or contacted me before agreeing a deal with 3rd party insurance.
Is this normal?

Offering £25 extra for salvage
Shall i take it back and sell it myself for salvage to get more?

Thanks

Category B write-offs are generally quite bad wrecks.

Cat S & N are repairable (allowed to be repaired) but not economical for insurers to repair.

Yes, it's normal for them to not give you the report.
As a cat B it's incredibly rare to ask to retain it, so even if they haven't asked it's functionally the same thing - you're going to take the payout for it.

Have they offered a fair amount for it?

    Thanks for the reply,

I'll ask to see the report first as it wasnt that bad, both doors and rear wing scrapped but car was still sound, drove it back home from the accident for 10miles.
    Offering ~800 as it's 2001 A3 tdi with 193k miles on it

If it's really CatB, you won't be offered salvage. You won't be able to get another V5C, either.

From the description of the damage, it sounds more like CatN. Are you sure you didn't mis-hear "D"? (Although it'd have been C, due to the value, before the change)

Whatever - it's relatively academic. You claimed, they wrote it off (inevitably), they don't have to offer you salvage or get your agreement to anything bar the size of payout.
