I frequently see Launcher apps advertised but have no idea of their exact use or if I'd benefit from using one.

No idea what that means, update your predictive instead?

You phone already has a launcher, there are lots of alternatives. Worth it?
Depends what you find lacking in your launcher and what compromises the alternative ones have.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
Just give one a try, download from the app store and if you don't like it, just uninstall it and your phone will go back to it's previous launcher.
The launcher is what loads when you turn on your phone and enables you to arrange your apps, change themes, wallpapers etc.
Try one called 'Evie' to start with, it's simple to use and has some nice customisations....Drinking Rum before 10am makes you

I woundn't waste your time. i have always reverted back to the stock launcher which always has enough customising options"The Holy Writ of Gloucester Rugby Club demands: first, that the forwards shall win the ball; second, that the forwards shall keep the ball; and third, the backs shall buy the beer." - Doug Ibbotson0

And those although I've just realised the OP is talking about Launchers not Browsers, whoops.0 -
I use Nova Launcher as it is very customisable and none of the default launchers do what I want them to do. But if you've never seen a need for a launcher them I wouldn't bother with it, as you won't really need the customisations that they give you. For me, it's one of the main attractions of Android phones, is that you can customise is and get it just as you want, but most people probably don't need that level of customisation.Retired at age 56 after having "light bulb moment" due to reading MSE and its forums.
