Eon - Crafty!

Afternoon all,

Interesting situation with Eon which may assist others. I've been on a fixed tariff which has come to an end, the new deals they offered were quite a bit more costly than my current tariff so I started to shop around. Read my meters, check last years bills and inputted my yearly useage, Octopus were the cheapest by around £28 per month so started the transfer. Read good things about Octopus, only owed Eon £15 to clear my account so all good.

A few days after starting the transfer I get a call from Eon offering my an exclusive tariff which is cheaper than Octopus, certainly for electricity which suits as I have an EV. Asked why this wasn't included on the paperwork they sent me when they advised my tariff was ending, apparently it's a telephone only deal! Hmmm yet their paperwork and figures told me another tariff was their cheapest deal for me now which was clearly untrue!

Clearly they only offer the cheapest deals when you actively leave. Don't like this, similar to what insurance companies do. However I'm not cutting my nose off to spite my face so staying with Eon.

Just an idea to try if your Eon tarrif is ending, call them as they don't show these cheaper tariffs online or when they recommend their cheapest deals via letter.

Sure my neighbour will be disappointed to not get his £50 credit!

Hello supersaver2 and thanks for staying with us.

When customers leave, accounts move to a stage we call 'possible loss' and this triggers a review. This includes details going to a separate team who look to see if there's anything we can do to persuade a customer to stay with us. Recently we've been trialling an exclusive tariff that's only available through this channel. It sounds like this is what we offered to you.

This tariff isn't widely available and can't be seen on our website or Price Comparison sites. It's only available where customers have actively started to change supplier and the switch is at 'possible loss' as above.

Although good for you, it might not be for others depending on things like the region and metering set up. The team looking after this trial assess the possible appeal of the tariff as part of the review we do when customers leave. If they think it could be of interest, they'll make a call similar to the one you received.

Thanks again for staying with us supersaver2.

I'm with Eon and my fixed 2 year deal comes to an end on the 6th April.
For the last few weeks I have trawled around all the various comparison sites, checking tariff prices.
Then it's trying to find feedback on the potential new company.
I am now at the stage of hitting the switch button and Eon will come along with a beatable deal.
You can have a sarcastic Thanks for all the time and effort I have put in.
