Sofa Retailers

Do any sofa retailers exist with good reviews? It seems that trust pilot is extremely corrupt and hence when you read other review sites of Sofology/SCS/DFS/Harveys etc they're all appalling.

Hence, are any of the national sellers any good?

I wouldn't worry about the reviews. People are only going to post an online review on a sofa shop if they have a bad experience. It's not like a restaurant or hotel where a good experience might leave you wanting to crow about the great hospitality. I've bought stuff from these places and never had a problem, just don't expect the sort of long term quality you might get from an independent craftsman.

As with any big national chain, they are fine but can be a nightmare if a problem arises because you get lumbered dealing with call centres, head offices & waiting in for people.

All those chains sell decent brands. Natuzzi, G Plan, Duresta etc etc.

What goes wrong is buyers go in see a £3,000 G plan model, reel at the price and find a similar item at £300 thinking they are the same.

They then find out a £300 sofa isn't built as well as a £3,000 one, complain to the retailer and experience poor customer service from retailers who survive on volume sales of cheap products. They then complain online.

If you want quality use the sheds for research then find decent independent retailers or chains such as John Lewis which stock the brand you are looking for.

We started looking at Natuzzi.... But as you say.... it gets expensive :(
  • If you are interested in a good quality suite, you could do a lot worse than look at what Saxon have to offer. They offer a 28 day money back guarantee. There is also a 25 year guarantee covering manufacturing defects. Take a look at their website.

We got our sofas from JohnLewis many years ago and have no regrets. They're as good a new and still very comfortable. They weren't the cheapest but equally they weren't the most expensive out there.

We don't mind paying more, we're after quality/customer service. Will have a look at John Lewis, we never really considered them tbh

We have used a local independent retailer. Excellent quality and not especially expensive. It’s a family run shop which survives on reputation.

Example, we purchased dining furniture. Six months or so down the line, we noticed a slight split in the wood. I rang the shop, he came out to look that day and replaced within a couple of days. No quibble.

I bought our family room sofa from Sofology and apart from one issue which was handled really quickly I have not had a quibble with the quality etc - I look after it and the condition is still good after 4 years of teen wear and tear!!

I bought a Mulityork sofa from Ebay for £250 and dyed the covers for my lounge and again not had any trouble with it!! It was £4k had it been new but I couldn't have afforded that - I used my lounge less than my family room so the eBay alternative worked a treat for me.

    My DFS story.
Twelve years ago I bought 2 brown leather reclining sofas for £2.2k to replace some 13 year old fabric Gplan still in good condition. DFS came out with no fuss 2 years on to repair a spring. My daughter had her eye on these as they were super soft so after 7 years my wife wanted to have a change of colour so from DFS we bought 2 cream reclining leather sofas for £3k. My daughter still has the brown ones. Another 3 years and my wife wanted to go back to fabric and my son took delivery of the good as new cream sofas. We looked around for Gplan and no one could beat DFS prices so another £3k on the Gplan from DFS. Not to be left out my other daughter needed new sofas so after looking in store I bought her 2 for £1.5K online.
No problems with delivery or any of the dealings online and with the local store but these were not budget buys. Both were very helpful on sizing. One advantage of the recliners is that the backs come off (as do the arms on many DFS sofas) and getting through doors was no problem.
So if you remember that their own brands are always on sale at half price at some time or another and be aware of delivery charges and other extras that they may try to sell you then I have no reason not to use DFS.
  • No idea what your budget is, but the sofa and chair company do a good line in the higher end, great quality for the price.

Unlike some of the new Natuzzi garbage you get from eBay that lasts 2 years made in china.

You may want to look at the reviews!!
