At fault insurance claim

Parallel parked my car few weeks back, had 2 goes at it to get into tight spot, noticed man on pavement. Neighbour notified me saying I scratched his car, he has witness. His car already damaged due to prior accident, he said I caused further scratches and bent his bumper - cost £650. I think he's having me on trying to get me to pay to get his previous accident fixed.
We are both with the same insurer, they rang me today and said they will have to pay for his damage - even without having looked at the pictures of my car I've sent them showing there's no damage on my car and sure there would've been damage on my car also judging by the size of the scratches on his car. Insurer now get's surveyor out to look at both cars to assess damage.
What else can I do to stop having an at fault claim put against my insurance?

Further to Andy's comment, the third party say you have damaged the car and apparently has a witness.

Dash camera may of helped you here if it pictured the damage before you go too near it.
  • I didn't hit the car.
My feeling is that he was hoping that my paying him pays for the repair that the car previously sustained. The owner was very quick to ask me weather i was drunk and that it doesn't have to go through insurance and requested £650 to repair a few scratches on his bumper. No dash cam on my car.

Pretty certain they will pay out. They have a witness saying you hit the car, you have no evidence other than your own testimony to say otherwise.

OP, you'll have to trust the surveyors spot the inconsistencies in their story. If the scratches are significant and as he claims you bent his bumper, there would more than likely be signs of damage on your car. Might depend on the reliability of his witness, but the insurers might just think it's not worth the hassle and pay up anyway. Let us know how you get on with their surveyor.
