Paid for Special Delivery 9am...arrived 10.15am...can I claim?

Hi there, sorry to be making a thread for this relatively simple question but past threads don't quite cover this. I sold high value tickets on eBay yesterday and paid around £10.35 for Next Day 9am Special Delivery. The good news is, the tickets have arrived....the bad news: the ticket buyer is !!!!ed off because they paid extra for the 9am post and were waiting etc...

I was just wondering if this was enough to claim? The default compensation is only £50 and I didn't insure extra either

Also, is caliming through Royal Mail straightforward or a bit more like taking a company to court? :p

Thanks in advance for any help .:T

You should be able to claim for the postage (I'm not sure if its all of it or the difference between the 9am & 1pm RMSD costs) but nothing else as the item isn't lost or damaged (& I'm not sure whether tickets are covered by RM?). You can get the claim form online at www.royalmail.com but it can take a while to get your money back.

I'd let the buyer know what you're doing and tell them you'll refund them when RM refunds you.

You can claim the postage cost back, if it was actually delivered late, as it maybe the time the postie got back to the depot

Standard insurance is £500 not £50

Phone them on 08457 740740 & give them the details & they'll send you a cheque
  • I, once had a special delivery item arrive a whole week later.

The seller's attitude was pretty disgusting, he could have got £6.50 back or allowed me to get it back but he couldn't care less.

I always refund if a special delivery arrives day late or hour late etc. You as the sender can then claim the postage amount from RM. I would check tickets are covered if not then it is upto you to say whether it was tickets or simply a sheet of paper in the envelope  .
I know with Special Delivery 1pm they ONLY refund postage costs and no extra associated expenses so would assume its the same for 9am delivery. I would check the item definately arrived after 9am and if so immeditaly refund the buyer the postage cost only with an apologetic email. If you make him wait on you getting a refund he might leave you bad feedback as he did nothing wrong and paid for a service he did not get (even though not your fault). RM in my experience are very good and quick at refunding for late delivered next day post so you should not have any problems with this.

Special delivery is actually postcode dependant, the 1pm guarantee is extended to 5.30 for remote locations, and to 2 days for places like the Orkneys.
You need to check the postcode location on the rm site under special delivery faq.

the time on the website is not the delivery time
that is the time the signature card is scanned back at the depot.
also with before 9am's they go out for pre 9am and if there is no answer are often re attempted the same day.eg people often send them 9am for banks/businesses who dont open until after 9am

if the office failed to deliver before 9am you should get the refund.
the office manager will get pulled up for it as well however i foresaw these types of issies when they pushed through the later start times
  • I'd ring royal mail and ask for their advice and a claim form!
