This article from 2014 shows changes from 1st October that year that seem to state that whole lot goes to wife if I die and the £250,000 thing does not apply, am I reading that right?

AS YOU don't have kids the rules are different for you than your wife who does.
If you give her 1/2 of your house and she dies you don't get it all back the kids get some, you die she gets your share.

Go see a solicitor.
There's no capital gains tax for transfers between spouses, and there's no mortgage company to ask permission from. So you should be able to add your wife to the deeds with a form to the land registry.
You should get advice on will and whether you wish to own as joint tenants or tenants in common.Don't listen to me, I'm no expert!0
