Microsoft Office (Windows) recent ish version for a micro business

I need a new license for MS Office for a micro business I help run.
Would it be safe to buy one described as genuine from eBay? Ironically a 2010 version would be great but actually costs more than a 2016 version on eBay.
From Curry’s it’s 2019 but at £230 it’s a bit much.

Safe? What do you mean by "safe"?

    Will it work? Almost certainly.
Will it continue to work after, say, 120 days? Probably
Will MS block it? Unlikely but possible.

Office 2010 is not a "recent ish" version, it is in fact the next version to drop out of mainstream support in October next year.

Grey markets are always a gamble with this kind of thing. You can take the risk and it will most likely be fine (I was running a grey market purchase of Windows 8 for a while, before 10 came along) - but for buisness? I probably wouldnt risk it.

Try it - I have one and it works fine.

If it does go belly up after a while, you can soon buy another/more reliable one and carry on.
Suppose it depends on how MSE you are and also how 'risk averse'

Depends on whether you want to be able to pass a software audit or not. The one off Ebay won't pass an audit. Normally not an issue but it only needs a disgruntled employee to mention to FAST or any other body you're using dodgy software and you might get a visit. Also depending on what your business does and its client base the clients may have requirements for audits too.

£230 might sound a lot to you buying it for personal use but for a business its a minor expense. Some of the CAD software my wife was using at her former employers came with a £5000+ price tag and they had to pay for stuff like Photoshop and Corel versions which were more expensive than MSO is.

or from ebay 5 licences which apparently does not expire for £1.55 with 5TB

if it is not your company, pay the full whack, or the saving on ebay may come back to haunt you.

To be honest, just 5tb storage alone at this price could be worth it
