    Hi,

I don't have any partial dentures but my hubby does, having damaged all 4 front teeth years ago in a motorcycle accident. Had caps (I think the term is) which wore out evidentially, his own teeth crumbled under the caps and had to be removed. So a partial denture was the only option as implants too pricey !!

He did struggle with the partial at first. Speaking with it was difficult but with practice, comes easy now. He can eat with them in but prefers not too. We have a general rule : Keith the Teeth (their nickname) stay in if eating out. Can be removed if eating at home. The reason they stay in if eating out is because they've been dropped on floor in the pub and I had to scoop them up. They fell out of his pocket. Have also been thrown in the bin accidentially because they were wrapped in a napkin on a separate occasion.

He doesn't use any kind of Fixodent or similar as they just stay in without it luckily. They are removed at night. Dentist advised not to brush with toothpaste as too abrasive. They get washed in anti bac handsoap and gently brushed and rinsed well. Sterodent sometimes.

Hubby's biggest gripe is the cost of them. Nearly £250 for four teeth but a upper and lower whole denture costs the same price, which seems unfair :-(

Anyways, I hope you (OP) are getting on better with your partials and enjoying your new smile

If you take your shoes off at night, take your dentures out. We are not designed to wear big bits of plastic 24 hours a day.

Leaving them in if you have teeth left means you are more likely to get gum disease and decay around your remaining teeth

Leaving them in if you have no teeth means you are more likely to get yeast infections which will cause your gums to swell up and your dentures to become ill fitting.

    THIS

This is the reason my partial is now becoming a full plate. I refused to take them out at night and because of that, Ive suffered gum disease and whilst Ive spent a fortune over the years with a hygienist ( we don't get NHS hygienist here even if we do have gum disease ) trying to save my teeth, I was throwing good money after bad

Gum disease and constant bouts of oral thrush, not nice at all
