2010 Ford Galaxy 130k miles - needs new gearbox.
£2300 for recon gearbox.
£350 for fuel vapour valve.
£? for fitting new wheel hub (I've got part)
£? for new brakes needed to pass MOT in 6 weeks.
Car is worth I reckon £3500/£4000 max.
Surprised to find I could get £950 via these guys....
If I can, then its not economically viable to repair my car really is it? (With repairs likely to be minimum of £3000).
Anyone used them? Or are they con artists like webuyanycar?

I'm sure there is some catch in there, such as it must be in perfect working order:rotfl:
Why not just put it on EBay and let someone who can fix it themselves buy it?0 -
Not used that site before, but have used cartakeback.co.uk, which looks to be the same idea.
As long as you answer their questions honestly, I can't see there being a problem. Think they basically asked if the car was complete, and would it drive onto the transporter.
I've sold a couple through the site and had a letter or email back saying they weren't scrapping them, but going to sell as repairable. I'd guess this is what will happen to yours.0 -

A tad harsh methinks, they make no secret of their business model.0 -
Seems to be a portal site so you aren't selling your car to this company directly but to a local scrap dealer via it. The reviews online that aren't obviously fake look mixed to negative, people not turning up, haggling down price after it was agreed on the website etc.
If you use them do report back.0 -

Extraordinarily harsh. I recently sold a company car through them and got about £800 more than I had anticipated from looking at selling prices on Autotrader (£9300 v £8500).
The reason I didn't think they were con artists.
It wasn't mine so I had no 'attachment' to it
I had a realistic view of the condition of the car
I had made an unbiased assessment of the true value.
They saved me any amount of time and effort.
It's an excellent service for those who understand and appreciate it.0 -

Yes I might do that to be honest. I see they go for a bit more on ebay.0 -

Maybe things have changed.
I appreciate they need to check the car to weed out people who imagine their car is in good condition when its not. BUT last time I tried several years ago it was obvious they had no intention of even paying half the quoted price and were looking for any reason to do this.
Of course, you've taken the time to drive your car over there and they know that and they know a lot of people cant be bothered to take it home again.0 -
Not looked into the cost of a good/used gearbox?
Find a good seller and pay using a credit card, should give you enough protection.
If you decide you no longer want the car at least its working to get some money back.
If you can get it all done for less than £2000, it will be money well spent when it comes to reselling.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0
