Hard wire dash cam for VW convertible

Hi
Can anyone suggest a decent dashcam for a convertible
My car has recently been vandalised and I would like a camera that will detect motion when the vehicle is stationary with the engine off
I would forward and reverse view and I would like the camera to be hard wired and discrete
I drive a Volkswagen Golf convertible which I know may sllightly change the rear view
I am happy to have a camera which I would need to remove if the hood was down
Can anyone suggest a camera - Budget up to £200

How would a camera pointing forwards and backwards capture someone in the act who is most likely going to be doing damage from the side? If your Golf is like my MX5 there will be a MASSIVE blindspot to the rear due to the hood making a rear view one pretty much worthless for seeing anything other than what can be seen through the small rear glass. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. A lot of the cameras offer quite a range view point from the lens
To be honest , its more of a deterrant than anything else0 -
if its parked close by or on your property fit CCTV to the buildingNow we all know how it felt to play in the band on the Titanic...0

Unfortunately no drive way and no proof of where the damage was acquired0

There is a big problem, When the engine is off, the camera would need constant power, which will run down the car's battery in a few days.
Most dash-cams are intended to be connected to an ignition switched supply so they automatically turn off after the car does.
You'll need one specifically designed for this purpose - probably with it's own high-capacity battery.
I have fitted a 'normal' small dash-cam behind the rear-view mirror of an MR2, so it's un-affected by the hood, and very discreet.
This doesn't help with a rear-view or when parked up however.0 -
Some dash cams have motion detection and battery monitoring functions. Unfortunately I am not aware of any within your budget.
I installed Thinkview front and rear. The wide angle lens recorded a "lady" who drove into the side of my parked car then drove away.
If your vehicle is parked for more that say 48 hours, then you may wish to consider a battery pack."A nation's greatness is measured by how it treats its weakest members." ~ Mahatma Gandhi

No matter how wide the field of view (and it won't be more than 180 degrees for each camera), it cannot see through solid objects. I don't think posters truly understand that there's basically no visibility rear of the B post other than a small view directly to the rear through the porthole of a window in the soft top. This is a system account and does not represent a real person.
